Drug usage and the subject of drug usage do feature quite prominantly in the story.
However, its depiction is never glamourised, nor is it, I feel, in anyway unnecessary.
Most of the main characters, at some time or other in the story, smoke cannabis.
Again, this is not glamourised, and characters are often shown to be feeling
inconvenient effects, such as loss of control, paranoia and hallucinations, as a result of
smoking the drug.
Although psychoactive drugs are shown being taken for recreational purposes, the
serious, life-changing effects these mind-altering substances can have is a theme in
the story.
