As with the other media references, it's important to remember that the story

begins in 2002.

And since, in Burn Like Ice, films can be considered to be influential in terms of

personal development or evolution, it's useful to remember, not only what was around

at the time, but what wasn't yet. For instance, almost all the major characters

reference The Matrix, but the second two films in the trilogy were not released until

2003 ...

Along with the films mentioned or referenced in the story, certain movie stars play

quite an important role. As well as Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey influences several of the

main characters in one way or another.    ( see Jim on FNW Jonathan Ross )

One of the main characters in the story, Graham White, is writing his second book

on films, 'Beyond Good and Evil in Hollywood' , when we first meet him. His first book

was called 'Trippy Movies' .  ( read Graham White writing about Keanu Reeves )

Looking around for anything actually available along these lines, I was most

interested to find the website, 'The Good Fight', an American Christian group . The list

of films discussed in one of their hottest documentaries, 'Hollywood's War on God'

includes many of Graham's 'trippy movies'.

Some clips of the documentary are on YouTube and they are worth watching

if you're interested in this stuff (and if you don't get too wound up by Christian

fanaticism - they consider gnostic ideas, or even ideas about evolution to be heretical

and synonymous with 'satanism').

There's a really cool trailer for the documentary, but they've taken it off YouTube

and the link on their own website (link above) doesn't seem to work at the moment ...

NB
They've also done some excellent work on the rock industry - with David Bowie

and Marilyn Manson in particular coming under scrutiny. Somewhat inevitably, the ten

hour documentary is called 'They Sold Their Souls to Rock'n'Roll' ...

There is (or was last time I looked!) a preview to this documentary on the same

homepage ...
